What
makes a book? What makes a life? The Evergreen Centre Balwyn, the Boroondara
Writers Group and Boroondara residents combine with professional artists to
tell their stories and to push the boundaries of what makes a book.
See
books which hang on walls, concertina, roll-up or open the wrong way – all
handmade by their authors and illustrators to tell their stories.
Sunday
October 9, 2-3pm: Join gallery curator, Mardi Nowak,
and project creator, Caroline Carruthers and invited book artists in discussion
about the art of the book.
Evergreen
Centre members exhibit their books, made by hand in a series of workshops,
which tell their stories in memoir, illustration, photograph and collage.
Guest exhibitors include well-known local artists Robert Clinch, Gail
Stiffe, Bronwyn Rees and Caroline Carruthers.
During
the Victorian Seniors’ Festival, Seniors visiting the exhibit will be able to
share in the project experience by taking part in free short workshops in
simple bookmaking which include afternoon tea.
Workshop
dates: October 6, 7 and 8 from 2-3.30pm in the Community Art Space adjacent to
the gallery. Wheelchair accessible.
To
book for these workshops, contact Caroline Carruthers on 0419 399 140. Spaces
are limited.
