COMPANION ANIMAL VOLUNTEER SUPPORT PROGRAM (CAVS)

Becci loves her walks
The CAVS program provides support services to frail older people and people with disabilities to help them keep and care for their pets at home. The service recognises that a pet is often the most important companion in the lives of many people, but illness or frailty can make caring for pets too difficult to manage alone and as a result many are forced to give up or put down their closest friend.

The service involves determining the particular needs of a client and matching up both client and pet with a suitable volunteer/s. Referrals may be made through GPs, Vets, family or by the individual themselves.

Volunteers will help with dog walking, bathing, grooming, assistance in transporting a companion animal to the vet, emergency  resite care etc.

CARERS' SUPPORT GROUP

Carers often feel isolated, frustrated and cut off from social activities. This group offers carers an opportunity

  • to meet with other carers
  • to gain support through the sharing of experiences
  • to be informed of available services
  • to build new friendships.

Meetings held on the third Friday of every month at midday, with occasional guest speakers and lunch outings. Participants bring something to share for lunch, recognising that the stresses of caring may sometimes make this impossible. Respite is sometimes available for carees in our Planned Activity Group.

Available for Loan

  • Equipment including walking frames & sticks, toilet seat aids, wheelchairs, shower stools & chairs.
  • These items are available at no charge although a donation is appreciated.
